    Hi everyone,

im a new member and joined two weeks ago. Unfortunately I missed the surf fishing tournament on American Beach this past weekend but am looking forward to the next few get together.
im new to the area and moved down here back in March from Massachusetts.

My experience in salt water fishing is primarily stripper fishing in a Hobie kayak at night dragging live eels. So fishing for different species is what I need to learn.

I really would like to purchase a boat and keep it moored at a marina that is convenient to both the fishing grounds and my home. I live at Amelia National off 200 about 2-miles west of Chavez’s bridge.

Does anyone have any recommendations for me regarding a boat size, make, model, year, marina, etc? All information would be greatly appreciated!

    Walt

PS I got to meet Larry Finch “Fisherman” last week on the beach. What a great guy and a wealth of information. I’m certainly looking forward to hearing his talk this Saturday.

Walt - We moved to Amelia 6 yrs ago. I was asking the same questions. I joined the boat club at Amelia Island marina and took different boats out fishing. Getting experience in the water really helped me in selecting the best boat for me. I ended up with buying a bay boat that gives me versatility of shallow and light offshore. You might decide on boat for flats  and shallower water.
How you rig your boat is also key.  Power poles and ipilot trolling motors really ramps up fishing enjoyment. Happy to talk to you further at an upcoming club event.
